What We Offer
A Triad of Ideas
Euglena Academy's educational programs - seminars, courses, workshops and projects - are grouped into three interrelated disciplines that coincide with our tri-fold focus that cannot be fully understood independently: Gaia theory, systems sciences, and biology. By design, those sciences are linked within our program to tell a story of Gaia, our main focus.
Diverse learning modalities
Euglena Academy's educational programs and experiences fall into four main categories that provide flexibility and integration with the priorities and needs of participants:
- Ongoing seminars, courses, workshops and projects (e.g., Adaptability Project) that are open to the public. They are open to anyone 18 or older regardless of educational background. Participants in our courses are an interesting and often eclectic mix of ages, backgrounds and interests.
- Educational collaborations with regional educational, environmental, and activist groups such as Aprovecho and BRING.
- Professional seminars about systems sciences and climate change through our Climate Adaptation Program (ECAP) for professional groups like architects, builders, educators, medical professionals, government agencies, etc.
- Outdoor learning experiences, notably Euglena Summer Camps during which we set up a camp in a wild area where we conduct outdoor seminars on our curriculum as well as survival and homesteading skills useful on a radically changing planet.
Text books & other learning materials
Most courses involve one "textbook", although our texts are not the standard type used in most colleges and universities. For some courses, additional on-line reading is suggested. In some cases, especially in lecture-based introductory courses, class notes about the lectures are provided free of charge.
Registration & Enrollment
Registration and enrollment for courses can occur any time up to and including the second class after the free overview. Registration involves filling out a simple 1-page form providing basic student information like name, address, contact information, educational background (for counseling only; any person 18 or older with any background may enroll) & 2 personal references.
